We stumbled across Lefkes by accident and were so glad we did! This traditional, mountain village in central Paros boasts panoramic views of the sea and Naxos island and was the island’s capital during the medieval era.

Lefkes town can get busy during the day, but not many people stay here overnight which, in our opinion, makes it one of the best places to stay in Paros!

You’ll find wonderful boutiques, tavernas, museums, and galleries. The only problem with it is the limited options for places to stay, but it’s worth booking a few nights here if you can as it is truly stunning!

The best things to do in Lefkes, Paros, involve relaxing! But for the more active there is also a popular hiking trail, the Byzantine Road, that starts from Lefkes.

This ancient stone path dates back to about 1000 A.D. You’ll find several other great hikes if you’re interested in seeing the island by foot. Ask at your accommodation or in local cafes or restaurants for information on the best routes to follow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the questions we get asked most about staying in Paros answered!

Is It Better To Stay In Noaussa Or Parikia?

Deciding whether to stay in Naoussa or Parikia in Paros, Greece, really depends on your preferences and what you’re looking for in your vacation experience. Let’s break it down:

Naoussa: Naoussa is a picturesque fishing village located on the northern coast of Paros. It’s known for its charming narrow streets, whitewashed buildings adorned with bougainvillea, and vibrant nightlife scene. The harbor area is particularly scenic, with colorful fishing boats bobbing in the water. If you’re looking for a lively atmosphere with plenty of bars, restaurants, and boutique shops, Naoussa won’t disappoint.

One of the highlights of Naoussa is its beautiful beaches. You can easily access several stunning beaches from Naoussa, including Kolymbithres Beach with its unique rock formations and crystal-clear waters.

Parikia: Parikia is the capital and main port of Paros, located on the western side of the island. It has a more bustling and cosmopolitan vibe compared to Naoussa, with a wider range of amenities and services. The town is centered around a historic waterfront area lined with tavernas, cafes, and shops. Parikia also boasts several cultural attractions, including the iconic Panagia Ekatontapiliani (Church of 100 Doors), one of the oldest Christian churches in Greece.

Parikia offers easy access to some beautiful beaches as well, such as Livadia Beach, which is just a short walk from the town center. Additionally, Parikia serves as a convenient transportation hub, making it easy to explore other parts of Paros and neighboring islands.

Which is Better? Honestly we would find it hard to choose, and which ever one you choose to stay in the other is definitely worth a visit!

If you’re seeking a lively atmosphere with a vibrant nightlife scene and easy access to beautiful beaches, Naoussa might be the perfect choice. On the other hand, if you prefer a more bustling town with a wider range of amenities and cultural attractions, Parikia could be the ideal destination.

Both Naoussa and Parikia offer their own unique charm and attractions, so you can’t go wrong with either choice!

What Is The Most Beautiful Town In Paros?

Paros, Greece, is blessed with the most beautiful towns. However, if we were to pick one as the most beautiful, it would likely be Naoussa. Or Lefkes. Or Naoussa. Ugh.

Naoussa is postcard-perfect, the kind of place you imagine when you picture holidays in Greece. Narrow cobblestone streets, whitewashed buildings adorned with colorful bougainvillea, and a charming harbor dotted with traditional fishing boats.

The ambiance in Naoussa is simply magical, especially during the golden hour when the sunset casts a warm glow over the town.

However Lefkes (if you can call it a town), has the old world charm that we picture Greece would have been like back in the day. It just doesn’t have quite as much going on.

Think sleepy Greek village filled with friendly locals compared to a bustling, vibrant tourist town. Both have their merits, both are beautiful, and you should really see both while you’re there!

What Is The Main Area Of Paros?

The main area of Paros is typically considered to be Parikia. Parikia is the capital and main port of the island, located on the western side of Paros.

As the primary transportation hub, Parikia serves as the gateway to the island, welcoming visitors arriving by ferry from Athens, other Greek islands, and beyond.

If you’re planning to stay in Paros without a car, it’s best to choose accommodations in areas with easy access to amenities, public transportation, and attractions within walking distance. Here are a few recommended areas:

Parikia: As the main port and capital of Paros, Parikia offers a wide range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly hostels to boutique hotels and guesthouses. Staying in Parikia puts you in the heart of the action, with easy access to restaurants, cafes, shops, and cultural attractions. The town’s central location also makes it convenient for exploring other parts of the island by bus or ferry.

Naoussa: While Naoussa can get busy during the summer months, it’s still a great option for travelers without a car, as many accommodations are within walking distance of the town center and beaches. You’ll find a variety of hotels, guesthouses, and rental apartments to choose from in Naoussa.

Piso Livadi: Piso Livadi is a quaint seaside village located on the eastern coast of Paros, known for its relaxed atmosphere and beautiful beaches. While it’s smaller than Parikia and Naoussa, Piso Livadi offers a selection of accommodations, including hotels and apartments with easy access to the beach and waterfront restaurants. From Piso Livadi, you can explore nearby attractions like the charming village of Marpissa and the historic monastery of Agios Antonios.

How to choose where to stay in Paros

What Kind Of Holiday Are You After?

The main thing to consider when choosing where to stay in Paros is what kind of holiday you’re after. If you’re looking to party with your friends then you won’t want to start your search in the peaceful village of Lefkes.

If you want a quiet couples holiday then you might decide Naousa isn’t right for you. Paros has something for everyone, so use our guide above to help you choose the right area to start your search.

What’s Your Accommodation Budget?

Once you’ve narrowed down your search area you can narrow down hotels in Paros further by selecting your budget. Some areas of Paros are more expensive than others, so if you’re on a tight budget you might want to widen your search to include slightly less ideal towns for your accommodation.

It often works out cheaper to stay in a busy town and hire a car that can take you to the more peaceful areas of the island. You can also search for hotels on the outskirts of the action to bring down the price.

How Long Are You Staying In Paros?

If you’ll just be staying a few nights then the chances are you won’t be spending as much time in your accommodation. If you’re staying for a week or longer then you might want to find an apartment or somewhere with cooking facilities so you have the option to make your own meals and save money on eating out.

You might also like somewhere with a pool or hot tub to give you the option of somewhere to relax after mornings out exploring in the heat of the day.
