Can You Do A Safari In Zanzibar?

There are plenty of places to see wildlife in Zanzibar, though maybe not the traditional kind of safari that you get when you visit nearby Tanzania.
One of the most popular kinds of safari in Zanzibar is a blue safari, exploring the underwater life surrounding the island. You’ll have the chance to see dolphins, turtles and a huge range of colorful fish and corals such as anthias, powder blue tangs, lionfish, and bannerfish.
Head to Mnemba Atoll or Chumbe Island where you’ll find the best-preserved reefs.
Zanzibar is also home to several species of monkeys, the endangered Pemba flying fox which is the largest bat species in the world. Jozani Forest Reserve is the place to spot these jungle creatures.
So as you can see, while you might not find lions and elephants on the island of Zanzibar, you can definitely get up close and personal with some incredible wildlife. And if you want to experience a proper African safari as well then just book onto one of the tours listed above.
How Do I Get From Zanzibar To The Serengeti?

There are several different ways to get from Zanzibar to the Seregeti.
By Tour
The easiest way to reach the Serengeti from Zanzibar is to book onto a safari tour. They will then organise all the travel for you, which will most likely be a flight into Seronera airstrip in the Serengeti where a driver will pick you up.
With this option every step of your journey will be planned for you, so it is definitely the easiest form of transport. Doing it this way can actually save you money, as you won’t have to book every step of the journey seperately.
By Flight
If you would rather book a trip to the Serengeti yourself then the best place to fly into is the Seronera airstrip. From here, you will need to arrange a safari tour or a driver to pick you up and take you on to your lodging.
Another option is to fly into Arusha and take your time driving the 8 hours or so to the Serengeti. Many safari tours will start from Arusha with a stop at Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro crater as well as the Serengeti national park.
If you have the time then we can thoroughly recommend this longer excursion.
