Not born for cruising life but still itching to set sail? Not to worry, I think that was the case for most full-time cruisers. Luckily once you’re immersed in this lifestyle it’s pretty much a case of sink or swim (pun intended).

It’s impossible to know exactly how you’ll cope until you’re out there, which is why I always advise people to give it go in whatever capacity you feel most comfortable. Crew for someone else for a while, take sailing courses and holidays, or throw yourself in at the deep end knowing you might hate it and move home within the year.
